Participants in the sixth and final Values Conversation were asked to describe their feelings in one word, and all responses were overwhelmingly positive. Common themes that emerged included optimism, curiosity, motivation, and a sense of being valued. There was a strong sense of energy and purpose from everyone in the virtual space.
When invited to share how they felt upon receiving the results of the Values Audit, most people observed that they were not surprised by their results. A theme highlighting the importance of people being able to be authentic also emerged. Participants also recognised the connections between life experience and how individuals’ values showed up at work. Equality and the diversity of values within the group were also key features of the discussions. There was a strong desire for more opportunities to have conversations where people felt heard and their views listened to in a psychologically safe space. People responded very positively to the Rules of Engagement as a way to create environments where all voices are heard.
Participants fully engaged in the conversation about how core values can shape the organisation’s future. The idea that everyone has a part to play was welcomed, and talking about values helped people feel part of something more. Many participants felt a deeper connection with their colleagues, a result of being involved in a values conversation with others. Creating a psychologically safe environment, underpinned by trust, was seen as essential for ensuring that people could be confident their voices would be heard.
As the conversation came to a close, there was a strong sense of gratitude, positivity, and appreciation for being invited to participate. People were filled with curiosity about what lies ahead and how the organization will evolve as this journey of change continues.
